The Kellner Center for Neurogenomics, Behavior, and Society will be offering fully paid summer research opportunities for undergraduate students from the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) in Summer 2026. This opportunity will allow selected candidates to conduct research with a lab on the Urbana-Champaign campus affiliated with the Kellner Center.

Students in the program will gain valuable research experience in biology and psychology, along with structured mentorship and professional development training and opportunities. Potential research projects include brain mechanisms of attention in humans and mice, mitochondria and schizophrenia, and more.

This experience will last for eight weeks through June and July 2026 and includes a stipend and coverage of housing and travel expenses.

Students must be undergraduates at UIS and eligible to work in the United States. To apply, complete the application form at https://forms.illinois.edu/sec/1155134311 by February 20, 2026.

Applicants will need to provide a current transcript, indicate up to three Kellner Center-affiliated labs that interest the applicant, provide names and email addresses of two references, and provide short answers to three prompts:

  1. Tell us a little about yourself. This could be something about your relevant work experience, your background, your personal history, your academic interests, etc. (300 word maximum)
  2. Why are you interested in gaining research experience and what are the sorts of subjects you would be interested in researching? (300 word maximum)
  3. Are there features of the Kellner Center that particularly interest you, and if so, why? For more information, see our Mission page.

Decisions are expected by the end of March.
